Standard Walks

Are you unsure of where to walk, yet would like to see the best scenery whilst having the reassurance of an experienced guide?  Do you need the assistance of someone who knows the area well?  Or do you simply want to enjoy a walk ending at a local tearoom or pub? If so I am able to help as I offer personal guided walks to anyone visiting Exmoor and the Quantock Hills.

Each walk is carefully planned and assessed personally by myself, enabling you to enjoy and experience the delights of the area. In addition my ‘standard walks’ which are graded according to difficulty, I can devise any walk to suit your needs and abilities.  If you have any special requirements there are easy access trails I can recommend.

You will see first hand the stunning scenery of Exmoor and the Quantock Hills, learn about the area, it’s history and traditions.  You will see local wildlife and with luck you may just spot a Stag in it’s natural surroundings!

By their very nature Exmoor and the Quantocks are hilly with some steep climbs, so there will be an element of ascending and descending in most walks.
However, for your efforts you will be rewarded with superb views.

I can also guide on some of the most popular walking routes in the area including the Coleridge Way, West Somerset Coast Path, and the Exmoor sections of the South West Coast Path and Two Moors Way.

Hello, my name is John Buchan.

As someone who has lived and worked close to Exmoor and the Quantocks for more than 25 years, I have walked the area extensively and enjoyed finding out about its history and fascinating  'tales'.  I would now like to help visitors share my experiences.

I have led numerous walks for rambling groups and local organisations and have a recognised Walk Leaders qualification together with  current Outdoor First Aid certification.

I have also worked within a local Tourist Information Office advising visitors on the best walks and places to visit, including, of course,  the excellent pubs and tearooms!
